Vei I Vero

For my last year at Rubika, we had to create an environment by team. On that project, we decided to go for a tahitian inpired environement, with all the elements of the legend of the cave of Vaipoiri.



We choose to present the time where the hero "Vei", kill all the monsters, and there is a big party to celebrate his union with "Vero". That's why we choose to represent the village, at the end of the day.


For this environement, we had lots of challenges. First, we are less comfortable with Unreal, as it's our first year on it. We also have a lot of foliage because the story takes place in a tropical forest. And we wanted the rivers to be customisable, if we wanted to move it just a little bit, we didn't want to recreate another mesh.





For the water, we choose to use some curve with planes for the mesh, and add on top of that a shader that will create the flow of the river based on the angle of the plane. The more vertical the plane is, the faster the river texture will go, to simulate the speed of a cascade. I also added some detection with meshes, to create ripples on the side. And to make everything move, I am using flowmaps.
