For our 3d object class, we had to make a fantasy prop bases on concepts that already exists. I choose to make a mix of those 2 concepts:

I first started to make the basic shape in Maya to have the proportions right.
Then I imported it in zbrush to start sculpting more details. When I have something that I'm satisfied with, I do a lower version of that model with the zremesher. It's not that perfect so I put it back to Maya to clean it a bit and to make the UVs.

I bring all of that to substance painter to do the textures. I started by a quick base color. I then add others layers to make something that looks cool. For the blades I started with a blue base color and then with an inverted curvature generator I was able to have a base for the white of the ecume. I added another map to correct where it needed some corrections.

I also tried just for fun to make a render in Zbrush and coloring it inside Zbrush too.
