We had to create a proof-of-concept asset for our first-semester jury. For that, I chose to make a Tiki that will stand at the entrance of the 'Umu Ti' to protect it.
I started by creating a basic shape in Maya to get the proportions right, and then I moved to ZBrush to sculpt the details.
After that, I went back to Maya to do the retopology.
For the textures, I experimented with Substance Painter using different generators like 'curvature' and noise to achieve a hand-painted effect. Once I had a result I liked, I did a quick pass to adjust the UV cuts in the texture so they wouldn’t be visible. I then took this material and created a smart material that I could use for the rest of the assets in my diorama.

Here’s a final look at all of my textures and UVs:

I had a lot of fun making this asset, and I also spent a lot of time on it since it was my first fully finished and polished asset. I tried to recreate what I had in mind for my art direction, and I think the final result is pretty cool!
